Norwegian Warmblood (NW) is the official studbook for warmblood sports horses, bred and registered in Norway.

The studbook is organised with a board of directors, consisting of members being elected on a two-year basis by representatives of the eight local regions of the country.

The formal organisation of the studbook in regions reflects our aim to encourage breeding in Norway. We acknowledge the fact that the interest for breeding horses is geographically widespread in a country, which with its harsh climate and challenging geography does not favour travelling to exhibitions and events with horses easily.

Norwegian Warmblood organises regional qualifiers and exhibitions for mares, foals and young horses. The result of these qualifiers decides which mares and foals will go forward to the national finale in late August, arranged together with the annual Breeders Trophy finale.

The Breeders Trophy is the fruitful result of a close cooperation between the Norwegian Equestrian Federation and Norwegian Warmblood in focusing on formally connecting the relations between sport and breeding. At this stage, we arrange Breeders finals for 5 and 6 year olds competing in dressage, eventing and show jumping. In addition NW stages an annual performance tests for 3 and 4 year olds taking place in Fall. 

The stallion grading show is arranged in late February in cooperation with the Norwegian Horse Society (Norsk Hestesenter). The Norwegian Horse Society is the official organisation embracing most studbooks in Norway, hence is responsible for the actual registering process of our studbook. The stallions undergo a performance test as well as getting judged by their conformation and character.
